Zulfikar Ali Jewel elected President, Mehedi Hasan takes Secretary post in landmark vote

The Foreign Admission & Career Development Consultants Association of Bangladesh (FACD-CAB), the apex body representing Bangladesh’s overseas education consultancy industry, has elected a new executive committee for the 2025- 2027 term. The biennial election was held on Friday, July 26, 2025, at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka, in a highly anticipated vote that drew strong participation from member institutions.

Zulfikar Ali Jewel, representing the United FACD-CAB Forum, has been elected President after securing 166 votes. He defeated Abdul Kadir Khan Babu, who received 110 votes. Mehedi Hasan of the Democratic Unity Council was elected as Secretary with 176 votes, outpacing independent candidate Monirul Haque, who received 96 votes. Of the 296 registered voters, 277 cast their ballots, marking a turnout rate of over 93%.

Out of the 25 executive positions, the United FACD-CAB Forum secured six, while the Democratic Unity Council and allied candidates won the remaining 19 seats. The newly elected Senior Vice President is Md. Bashir Ahmed. The three Vice Presidents elected are Robiul Hossain (VP-1), Md. Rezaul Karim Reza of DCS Educare (VP-2), and G. M. Faruk Swapon (VP-3). The four Joint Secretaries are Md. Masud Parvez Samrat, Md. Mazharul Islam Apu, Md. Mostofa Zaman, and Syed Ahmed Chondon. Md. Solaiman and Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman have been elected as Organizing Secretaries.

Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman has taken the role of International Relations Secretary, while Rajib Kumar Bhadra Rupok will serve as Finance Secretary. The positions of Cultural & Events Secretary and PR & Communications Secretary have gone to Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan and Md. Sanaullah, respectively. Mehedi Hasan, in addition to his role as Secretary, will also serve as Office Secretary. Ershad Ahmed Nishan has been elected Legal & Welfare Secretary, and Engr. Sheikh Saifuddin Ahmed will serve as Research & Development Secretary. The ICT Secretary position has gone to Samiul Hasan Khan.

The five elected Executive Members are Mohammad Saleh Chowdhury, Md. Solaiman, Md. Rasel Mia, Anisuzzaman Kiran, and Md. Masud Rana.

The election process was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Md. Atikur Rahman, with Dr. Md. Mahfuz Hafiz and Advocate Rafiqul Islam serving as Election Commissioners. Advocate Md. Mohsin Kabir chaired the appellate board. The entire electoral process was closely monitored by official observers from the Ministry of Commerce, FBCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, and members of law enforcement agencies to ensure a transparent, secure, and orderly event.

FACD-CAB continues to play a vital role in supporting ethical practices, counselor capacity-building, and regulatory engagement within Bangladesh’s growing study abroad industry. With this new committee in place, the association is expected to strengthen its advocacy, foster institutional collaborations, and enhance student support services for Bangladeshi learners seeking international education opportunities.
